Asus VivoBook S15 Review

It is fair to start with the screen of this laptop, which is 15.6 inches, has a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and covers 86 percent of the front panel. That said, those who have used 13-inch equipment, for example, may not find it practical.

Of course, when it comes time to make a report or watch a series or movie, the experience is satisfactory, and the feeling of fatigue from being in front of a laptop display may not occur so soon.

Some limitations are exposed by the fact that the screen is LCD, especially in contrast – it’s not as high as you’d expect. However, that does not mean multimedia content will not be enjoyed on the Asus VivoBook S15. On the contrary, its size is perfect for long entertainment sessions. His sound also contributes, which is in charge of the renowned firm Harman/Kardon; it is powerful and clear enough to play music and all kinds of clips.

Performance

The Asus VivoBook S15 is a laptop that responds well to tasks related to productivity and entertainment. Its processing is handled by the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U at 2.3 GHz (it can also be configured with the Ryzen 7 5700U at 2.0 GHz), and it includes 8 GB of RAM (maximum 16 GB).

According to the processor manufacturer, the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series introduces “Zen 3” architecture to mobile computing, delivering up to 17 percent faster speeds than the previous generation. All of this benefits gaming, content creation, and productivity laptops.

With the basic configuration of the Asus VivoBook S15, a student or professional will have more than what is necessary to carry out their work or office reports, respectively. It’s also surprising how quiet it can be, even when multiple applications run simultaneously.

And if one day you forget your charger – which gives you a 60 percent charge in around 50 minutes – there is no problem: the autonomy of the equipment is enough to complete a day of activities.

Regarding storage, it starts at 512 GB. The average user who does not have to deal with editing and processing large volumes of artwork will not have a problem with this amount.

Another factor that makes the Asus VivoBook S15 feel like a performance machine is its Wi-Fi 6 support; If you have the corresponding modem at home, there will be an improvement in the download of information, from smooth content playback to “smooth” online gaming.

By the way, the Asus VivoBook S15 is easy to customize with all the tools compatible with Windows 10, from Office to Zoom (now that video calls have become so common).

Design

Apart from its large display, the Asus VivoBook S15 stands out for other elements related to its design. For starters, its frame is textured metal with diamond-cut edges. Its weight is 1.8 kg, and it has a thickness of 16.1 mm.

If you plan to transport from one place to another, it is best to consider a bag or backpack; it is not as practical to carry it under the arm as other laptops allow.

On its sides, the user will find various USB-A ports, one USB-C, an HDMI input to integrate an external monitor, the 3.5 mm headphone jack, an SD card reader, and the hole that allows the machine to be charged. It may not be necessary to purchase adapters or hubs separately.

Like the screen, the backlit chiclet keyboard is quite large -with the Enter keyframed in a different color-even, consider the numerical section separately, which is good news for those who usually make reports that involve figures.

In the writer’s opinion of these first impressions, the time to get used to the keyboard is longer, but nothing serious. Once this is overcome, the user will feel comfortable when he has to write various documents.

A fingerprint sensor is located on the touchpad below the keyboard, making it easy to log in quickly. It responds well in most cases, although sometimes because it does not recognize the fingerprint, it will be necessary to use the other unlocking options.

Finally, the HD (720p) resolution webcam is in the center of the top frame of the screen, a convenient location for seamless video calls.

Although we think that the laptop is usually too big to carry under the arm, we give it a vote of confidence because doing productivity and entertainment activities with it is comfortable, thanks to its 15.6-inch screen.

It also doesn’t get stuck when running video applications or multiple windows open simultaneously. In other words, professionals or students can see it.
