iphone 13 mini review

The 13 mini takes an hour and 43 minutes to fully charge, reaching 80% in 46 minutes, with a 20W USB-C charger (not included in the box).

The 13 mini has the same A15 Bionic chip as its bigger siblings, making it one of the fastest smartphones you can buy, and it has the same initial 128GB storage, which is large enough for most smartphones. stuff.

However, the battery doesn’t last as long as larger phones, taking about 38 hours between charges with the screen on for just over four hours during that time. That’s eight hours less than the iPhone 13, but still decent for such a small phone.

The 13 mini runs the same iOS 15 software as the rest of its lineup, including several new features to help process notifications and faster speech recognition. Apple will provide at least five years of software and security updates, and potentially up to seven years.

Sustainability

Apple does not provide the expected battery life for the iPhone 13 mini, but it can be replaced for £ 69. Similar device batteries typically maintain at least 80% of their original capacity after 500 full charge cycles. The smartphone can generally be repaired, with an out-of-warranty service costing £ 376.44, including the display.

IPhone 13 mini uses 98% recycled rare earth metals, 99% recycled tungsten, and 35% recycled plastic in various components, plus 100% recycled tin in the solder of its main board and battery management unit. The company breaks down the environmental impact of the phone in its report.

Apple also offers free and trade-in recycling schemes, even for non-Apple products.

Observations

The 13 mini has the same improved dual camera system as its bigger brother, making it one of the best you can buy but lacking optical zoom. See the iPhone 13 review for more. Photography: Samuel Gibbs / The Guardian

Wireless charging is restricted to 12 W, not the 15 W maximum that the other iPhone 13 models can do with Apple's MagSafe charger.

Call quality, 5G reception, and Wi-Fi were solid.

Price

The iPhone 13 mini costs £ 679 ($ 699 / A $ 1,199) with 128GB of storage, £ 779 ($ 799 / A $ 1,369) for 256GB or £ 979 ($ 999 / A $ 1,719) for 512GB.

For comparison, the iPhone SE costs £ 389, the iPhone 13 costs £ 779, the iPhone 13 Pro costs £ 949, the Samsung Galaxy S21 costs £ 769, the OnePlus 9 costs £ 629, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 costs £. 949.
The first batch of iPhone 13 Pro reviews is available ahead of the launch at the end of the week. Unboxing reviews and videos are extremely positive, especially when it comes to the camera. The new iPhones may be an iterative update over the iPhone 12, but Apple has made the right set of improvements here.

IPhone 13 Pro screen

The beginning of the post review perfectly sums up the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are phones designed for people who care about details. The improvements over last year's iPhones are significant but not noticeable at first glance.

The better battery life is also definitely remarkable and a huge draw.

I've only owned the phones for just under a week, so I've focused most of my usage on the smaller iPhone 13 Pro as a worst-case test of sorts. And my results are in line with Apple's claims. On a day where we really hit the phone with a lot of 4K video and full-screen brightness, it lasted from early morning to 11 pm with 20 percent remaining, just over four hours. Of use. Very intense on screen time tracking app. On a day with less heavy use, I logged in for seven hours of screen time before the low battery warning went off.

The improved triple camera setup on the iPhone 13 Pro shines when shooting in low-light conditions.

All of this adds up to a camera that can absorb a great deal of light very quickly compared to other phones. Combined with some Tweaks and improvements to Apple's computational photography, the low-light performance on the 13 Pro is second to none.

There is less image noise in low light conditions and more dynamic range in low and medium light conditions. Apple also tells me that it has adjusted the way it handles the black point, so exposure to shadows is now more accurate as well - the 13 Pro is more willing to let dark areas darken while exposing areas accurately. . In situations where the 12 Pro would aggressively jump into night mode and light everything up, the 13 Pro often doesn't need night mode. And when the 13 Pro goes into night mode, it goes through the exposure process twice as fast.

Unfortunately, you won’t notice the jump in image quality between the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro unless you take a pixel to peek.

We bring things back to earth. Will most people notice the difference in quality between the 13 Pro and the regular iPhone 13 or even last year's iPhones? Most of the time, I think the answer is no. On phone screens, you have to zoom in and look at the pixels to see them. But if there's a place where I think it makes sense to call an iPhone "Pro" as in "for professionals," I think this is the primary wide-angle camera.

That macro camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max is useful as it allows you to get very close to the subject.

In bright to medium light conditions, I found macro photography on the iPhone solid. It's not on the level of a mirrorless camera with a dedicated macro lens, but it's one of the best implementations of a macro mode I've seen on the phone. I took solid close-up photos of food, coffee and even shot a nightmare video clip of ants crawling over a discarded grapefruit.

The new Cinematic Video feature of the iPhone 13 series is fun to play with but not very useful.

Are cinematic videos perfect? No, but it is great to use and experience. Cinematic mode needs a good amount of light to work best. If conditions are too dark, a pop-up window will appear asking you to turn on the flash.
