Realme GT 5G Review

The company announced the international launch of its most ambitious device to date, the Realme GT 5G. This phone, presented in China in March, surprises with its design, internal specifications at the level of the best high-end, and, above all, its price.

The power of a whole flagship killer

As anticipated at the beginning, Realme brought out the heavy artillery with this phone and arrived with the best of Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888, accompanied by two versions of different memories: 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB.

The unit I tested had 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage; As expected, it performed like a high-end in all scenarios. Daily, it flows perfectly without reporting any lag or sudden closure. Transitions through menus are quick, and applications open and close quickly.

Regarding gaming, I can say the same: the phone can smoothly run even the most demanding titles like Asphalt 9 without any noticeable FPS drop.

In terms of autonomy, the experience was also good, although with nuances. The phone mounts a 4,500 mAh battery that, with regular use and the update rate in automatic selection mode, manages to complete the day with approximately 30 percent charge. With heavy use and the screen at 120Hz, a complete payment would see me through the end of the day, but it needed to be recharged at night.

On the other hand, the 65W fast charging system is one of the best we can find. And it is that in about 20 minutes, we can go from 0 to 70 percent charge and have a full battery in 35 minutes. Of course, it does not have wireless charging or reverses charging for other devices.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the phone has other noteworthy features such as 5G connectivity, WiFI 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a classic headphone jack. It also has stereo speakers with Dolby sound and High Definition Audio certification.

An original design like no other

There is no way this phone, especially the yellow vegan leather model I tried, could go unnoticed. In addition to being original, it is tremendously comfortable in hand, not only because of its weight but also because the finish on the back does not slip at all. Against all odds, yellow leather doesn’t get dirty and cleans up very quickly. Of course, in just a few days of use, the camera’s frame was slightly worn since it protrudes and constantly touches the surface.

The screen is a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED with FullHD + resolution. This hardware is topped off with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits peak brightness which gave me an excellent experience. The color reproduction and the level of sharpness of the screen allow perfect viewing of content and get the most out of games.

The automatic brightness adjustment responds very well, and the brightness level is more than sufficient indoors and outdoors. The update rate also has an option that is adjusted automatically (depending on the applications we use), which helps us save a lot of battery.

The screen is locked using two biometric systems, a fingerprint sensor on the screen and facial recognition through the front camera. Both work quickly and accurately, although facial recognition can sometimes take time to detect the face if there is insufficient light.

amazing cameras

The photographic section is usually the Achilles heel of Realme phones, but this time I must say that I was surprised for the better. The Realme GT 5G has a camera setup of a 64 MP sensor signed by Sony, supported by a 119-degree super wide angle and a 2 MP macro sensor. The front camera is 16 MP.

Photos taken with the primary camera are perfect overall and in favorable lighting. The wide angle does not distort, although it distorts slightly when shooting at night and activates in night mode.

The color reproduction is very realistic, without saturating the colors or pasting the textures. Portrait mode is very natural, both in cropping and in the level of blur, although sometimes it does not recognize the subject well with more complex objects such as hair or glasses. The dynamic range also more than meets the mark and is capable of reproducing the highest lights, such as those in the skies, without burning out. I was also surprised by how fast the shutter responds, allowing me to take photos quickly and without blurring (even in night mode).

The front camera also gave good results, although the beauty mode is configured by default and entirely artificial, so if you are not a fan of using it like me, I recommend using it.

Or disable it before shooting.

Finales

Realme called this phone its flagship killer, and I couldn’t agree more. Its price for the 12 GB and 256 GB versions is 599 euros, and 449 euros for the 8 GB and 128 GB versions. It is a device that, except for some construction details or its battery (which in my opinion is somewhat fair for such a powerful phone), can stand up not only to the competition but also to some of the best phones on the market.
